Introduction
Multifactor Authentication (MFA) is required for Pace account holders when accessing the Pace Portal, Email, Banner applications and other Duo protected Pace systems. This article contains steps to enroll in Duo MFA upon logging in to a protected system.
Requirements:
- Download the latest version of the Duo Mobile app from the Google Play or Apple App Store to your mobile device.
- Ensure your device's operating system (e.g., Android, iOS) is up-to-date.
- Enable automatic time synchronization on your Android or iOS device settings before use.
- If you are outside the USA, check if your country is listed as restricted by Duo Security.
There are two ways to enroll (please click one of the methods below to jump to that section):
- QR Code Scan - Requires both a computer/laptop and a separate mobile device (e.g., smartphone, tablet)
- Email Activation Link - Requires a mobile device only (e.g., smartphone, tablet)
Instructions
Enroll via QR Code Scan
- From your computer/laptop, open your internet browser
- Navigate to the protected Pace system, then log in with Pace credentials
- When prompted, click Start setup
- Select the type of mobile device you are enrolling (Mobile phone recommended) and click Continue
- Note: If you have a tablet, select Tablet instead and click Continue, then proceed to step 7.
- If you are enrolling a mobile phone, type your ten-digit phone number
- Note: For international phone numbers, please select the country from the drop-down list and type your phone number
- Double-check your phone number, click check box to confirm the number is correct and click Continue
- Select type of device being enrolled and click Continue
- Note: Users who have selected Tablet will be prompted to add either a iOS or Android device.
- If you have not yet installed the Duo Mobile app on your mobile device (e.g., smartphone or tablet)
- From your mobile device, go to your device's App Store (e.g., Google Play or Apple App Store) and search for Duo Mobile
- Tap Get or Install and then Install or Accept to download the app to your mobile device
- Once the Duo Mobile app is installed on your mobile device, return to your computer/laptop screen and click the I have Duo Mobile installed button to proceed
- Open the Duo Mobile app from your mobile device and scan the QR code shown on the computer/laptop screen
- Click Continue to complete the process
- Note: A confirmation message will display a green checkmark showing that your device was just added.
- Click Continue to Login to be redirected back to the Pace system
Enroll via Email Activation Link
- From your mobile phone or tablet, open your internet browser
- Navigate to the protected Pace system, then log in with Pace credentials
- When prompted, click Start setup
- Select the type of mobile device you are enrolling (Mobile phone recommended) and click Continue
- Note: If you have a tablet, select Tablet instead and click Continue, then proceed to step 7.
- If you are enrolling a mobile phone, type your ten-digit phone number
- Note: For international phone numbers, please select the country from the drop-down list and type your phone number
- Double-check your phone number, click check box to confirm the number is correct and click Continue
- Select type of device being enrolled and click Continue
- Note: Users who have selected Tablet will be prompted to select either a iOS or Android device.
- If you have not yet installed the Duo Mobile app on your mobile device (e.g., smartphone or tablet),
- Go to your device's App Store (Google Play or Apple App Store) and search for Duo Mobile
- Tap Get or Install and then Install or Accept to download the app to your mobile device
- Once installed on the mobile device, click the I have Duo Mobile installed button to proceed
- On the screen, click on the Email me an activation link instead
- Enter an email address where you can access the link being sent and click Send email
- Note:
- If you are completing this setup via the Pace email system, please enter a non-Pace email address
- You will receive an email from Duo Security (no-reply@duosecurity.com) to your email account. Within email message, there will be a link to activate your Duo Mobile app.
- Open the email from Duo Security on your mobile device
- Click Open to be redirected to the Duo Mobile app
- In the Duo Mobile app, tap Pace University if the 6-digit passcode is not shown
- Verify Pace University and six-digit passcode displays on the Duo Mobile app
- Note: The generated passcode can only be used once. To generate a new one, wait 30 seconds for duo to refresh a new passcode.
- You have successfully activated your Duo Mobile app and can return to the protected Pace systems.
- Click Continue to complete the process
- Note: A confirmation message will display a green checkmark showing that your device was just added.
- Click Continue to Login to be redirected back to the Pace system
