Finding Computer Name

Introduction

University employees who need to connect to their office computer remotely will need to know the computer name in order for the connecting application (e.g. Remote Desktop) to find it on the Pace network.  The steps below show you how to find the computer name on Pace Mac and Windows computers.”  

Select from the different Operating Systems:

• Mac Computers
• Windows 10
• Windows 7

Instructions

Mac Computers

1. Click the Apple symbol in the top left hand corner
2. Click System Preferences in the drop-down menu
   
    
3. Click Sharing
   
4. The computer name will appear at the top of the window.

Windows 10

1. Click the Windows Start button in the bottom left corner on the screen
   
2. Click Control Panel
   
3. Click System and Security
   
4.     Click System
   
5. The computer name will displayed to the right of Device name or Computer name
   

Windows 7

1. Click the Windows Start button in the bottom left corner on the screen
   
2. Click Control Panel from the menu
   
3. Click System and Security
   
4. Click System
   
5. The Computer name will displayed under the section Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings
