Introduction
Kaltura is migrating to Panopto with plans for ending Kaltura service. Kaltura content that has been viewed in the last 3 years will be automatically migrated over to your Panopto account. Kaltura’s functionality and media repository within Brightspace/Classes will transition to Panopto. ITS will manage the retirement, content clearing and migration of Kaltura content in the following ways.
You have the option to manually download Kaltura content (LINK) and Upload to Panopto (LINK).

Migration Details
Classes User Interface Change
Panopto will be added on the Brightspace/Classes homepage Navigation bar. This new Panopto button will bring you to the main Panopto server log in.

Panopto Retention Policy
Pace University video retention policy allows 2 years in a “Live” format followed by 3 years in an “Archived” format before being cleared from the server.
Once content is populated in Panopto, it is “Live”. “Live” content is available to all users who have access. If Live content has not been viewed in 2 years, it will be “Archived”.
“Archived” content is stored for an additional 3 years. Archived content can only be viewed as a thumbnail by the content's owner. The owner can request that the content be restored to “Live” status. The request can take up to 48 hours to process.
Migration Timeline
- April 19, 2023 – Panopto is available on the Brightspace/Classes homepage navigation bar
- May 17, 2023 – Kaltura content clearing begins
- July 16, 2023 – Kaltura is removed from the Brightspace/Classes homepage navigation bar and Kaltura Media Gallery option is removed from Brightspace/Classes courses
- September 1, 2023 – Kaltura is terminated
Kaltura Content Clearing Criteria
Anything not viewed in the past 3 years, that we are not specifically requested to keep, will be deleted and not transferred to Panopto. The deletion process will begin on May 17th, 2023.
Kaltura YouTube Ingestion
Kaltura YouTube ingestion content will not be migrated to Panopto. All Kaltura YouTube ingestion content that was viewed within the last 3 years will be unavailable after August 31, 2023.
Kaltura Media Linked on Websites or Brightspace/Classes
Kaltura media currently linked to Pace websites or Brightspace/Classes course content, that have been viewed in the past 3 years, will be active until August 31, 2023. We recommend these links be replaced with Panopto video links as soon as possible. Once Kaltura is terminated on September 1, 2023, Kaltura videos will not be available.
