Introduction
For the Research Topic Essay to be developed during the Explorations in Business Research course, all students should use the same EndNote output style. Although you do not need to understand the concept or use of an output style, you should be able to follow these instructions.
Instructions
Configure EndNote for this course by creating the following modified output style:
- Open EndNote
- Select Edit > Output Styles > Open Style Manager
- Double click on APA 6th-full name style
- In the left panel, select Bibliography > Layout
- From the Insert Field dropdown menu to the right of "Start each reference with" select Bibliography Number
- From the keyboard, enter a period
- From the Insert Field dropdown menu to the right of "Start each reference with" select Tab
- Select close Style Manager near the upper right corner of the screen (do not close EndNote)
- Click Yes to Save changes to ... before closing
- In the Save As Style Name box, edit the result to be APA 6th-full name numbered
- Check the box to the left of APA 6th-full name numbered, if it is not checked
- Select close Style list near the upper right corner of the screen (do not close EndNote)
- From the dropdown menu in the third ribbon on the EndNote page, select the APA 6th-full name numbered style
- Close EndNote
The effect of the modification is to create a default output style that numbers the APA-style references in the MS word Reference List at the end of the Research Topic Essay. (You may need different output styles for other doctoral seminar papers.) Below is the expected format of this output style.

If your bibliography does not automatically format with sentence style capitalization (i.e. your references insert into MS Word with the titles all in CAPS), you can edit it by taking the following steps:
- Select Edit
- Select Output Styles
- Select Open Style Manager
- Highlight the Style you created for DPS 870 (i.e. "APA 6th-full name numbered")
- On the left side of the screen, look for “Bibliography”, and select the subheading Title Capitalization
- Select Sentence style capitalization
- Close the Style Manager near the upper right corner of the screen (do not close EndNote)
- Click Yes to "Save changes to” before closing
